WSU Wins at Home Against St. Mary's, but Racks up the Errors
April 7, 2009 by ReginaldWayne - The
Shockers had ten hits and seven runs tonight against the St. Mary's
Spires tonight, winning the game 7 - 2. Josh Rosecrans posted his third
three hit game of the season and Cody Lassley hit one onto 21st street
to put the Shocks up 5 to 1 in the fourth. The Shockers then added
three more runs before the end of the game.
While the game was handely won by WSU the underlying story I see is the number of errors.
Throwing errors in the 1st, 3rd and 9th inning all could have been
turned into runs, but fortunately for the Shockers they were not. If
the Shockers had been playing a better team or in a closer game, those
errors could have been costly. This is the third multiple error game
for the Shockers in the last four games. I hate to be the nay sayer but
if WSU plans to go far this postseason they will need to sharpen their
play and not make mistakes that can be costly in close situations.
Their team fielding percentage for the season is a solid .968, which is
on par with their past few seasons, but if they continue to have
mulitple error games like this we will see that number drop. Here's to
better fielding play.
